Anubrata Mondal fails to appear after police summons in non-bailable threat case, faces possible arrest

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal has failed to appear before police despite receiving a summons in a non-bailable case. The summons was issued by the Bolpur SDPO office, directing him to present himself at the police station on Saturday morning in connection with allegations of threatening a police officer’s wife and mother.

A case has been registered against Mondal under various non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code related to these threats. Police sources have indicated that if Mondal does not appear soon, strict legal action may be initiated against him. The case was filed following the circulation of an audio recording in which Mondal allegedly threatened sexual violence against the officer’s family members.

Mondal’s legal team, comprising five lawyers, visited the Bolpur SDPO office but declined to comment on the case, stating their visit was not related to this matter. Reports suggest that Mondal may apply for anticipatory bail in either the Siuri Magistrate Court or the Calcutta High Court.

Previously, Mondal has been linked to several controversies, including a cow smuggling case. Central agencies had arrested him in that case, and he was held at Tihar Jail in Delhi for an extended period. This current case adds to the ongoing legal challenges faced by the political leader. Police continue to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing that failure to comply with summons could result in intensified enforcement measures.
